3 Degrees Ministries began in 1989 as an outreach of Living Word Christian Center of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. The original club, operating under the name The New Union, was in a renovated bar in Northeast Minneapolis. Pastors Steve and Nancy Aleksuk met while serving at The New Union and were married in November, 1990.
Within a short time, The New Union became one of the most well known Christian venues in the country and a model for other churches and ministries. In 1994, The New Union relocated to its second location in a renovated American Legion Hall. It was during this time that the need to provide church for people who wouldnt necessarily be comfortable in a traditional church setting, really took hold. Always looking to do something outside the box, church at The New Union originally met at midnight on Saturday nights. With some success, and as the ministry grew, church was moved to Sunday evenings in 1996. It was then that a solid foundation as a church came together.
In October, 2003, with an extraordinary volunteer effort, 3 Degrees relocated to the Warehouse District in downtown Minneapolis under its current name. The move downtown changed the dynamics of our church, for the better. We continue to draw people from the suburbs and outlying areas, but also have an equal number of people who live in and around downtown. Our congregation definitely reflects the diversity of our city! One interesting thing weve noticed is a higher than average number of transplants people who attend church here who are not originally from the Twin Cities area. No matter where you grew up or what your background is, 3 Degrees Church is truly a place where anyone can feel welcomed and find a home. Our heart is to see our city come to know Christ and to continue to be a positive influence on the businesses and people around us.
